Terms and Conditions

In order to book and use the resources in the Fabrication Lab, The Edge Fabrication Lab User:

  • Has agreed to The Edge Terms of Use and Booking Terms and Conditions
  • Has signed up for a State LibaryAccount.
  • Has attended all relevant inductions
  • Has completed and signed all relevant paperwork

State Library is committed to maintaining the health and safety of our communities:

  • All community members are prohibited from the use Fabrication Lab Equipment while under the influence of alcohol or any other substance
  • All community members must wear enclosed footwear in the Fabrication Lab at all times

Repeated failure to comply with safety procedures or directions from the Fabrication Lab team will result in suspension of Fabricaiton Lab privileges.

For community safety, there are age requirements to use the equipment and to be in the space:

  • Community members 18+ may complete an induction, book and use equipment
  • Community members 16-17 years may complete induction, book and use equipment with parent/guardian consent
  • Community members 12-15 years are not able to undertake inductions

Community members are not permitted to use machinery without documented induction. There are no exceptions.

Age requirements for Open Lab

  • 16+ years may visit the Fabrication Lab during Open Lab without parent/guardian permission
  • 12-15 years may visit the Fabrication Lab during Open Lab with parent/guardian permission

Community members may only use approved materials, including 3D printer filament. Speak with a friendly Fabrication Lab team member about this.

All other materials require approval that takes at least 14 days to process:

  • You will need to provide documentation regarding the source and attributes of the material
  • You will be asked to provide a sample of the material for testing. Discuss this process with a Fabrication Lab team member

Every so often people run late and that is fine.

  • Community members can manage bookings through The Edge website

  • Bookings will be cancelled if there is no attendance 15 minutes after booking was scheduled to commence

Repeated “no shows” will result in temporary suspension of booking privileges.

Multicam CNC Bookings

The Edge's Multicam CNC Router is available for bookings on Tuesday afternoons between 12 to 4pm.

  • Booking can be made via the bookings page
  • All bookings are two (2) hours.

There are five (5) UP Mini 2 Printers available in the Fabrication lab for use.

  • Community members can book one (1) machine up to six (6) hours per day
  • Community members can make two bookings per week
  • Community members must be in the Fabrication Lab while printing
  • All print job must be completed by close of the Fabrication Lab that day

There are two other 3D printers avaialble for community access in the Fabrication Lab

  • The Lulzbot Taz5
  • The 3DS Joey

Use of these printers is by appointment and staff supervision of longer jobs can be discussed.

The Trotec RayJet is available for community access

  • Community member have a maximum of two (2) hours access per day
  • Community member can book one (1) session per week
  • Staff must check every job before cutting can commence

There are ten (10) Bernina sewing machine available for community access.

  • Maximum of one (1) machine for up to six (6) hours per day
  • There is no limit to the number of bookings per week

There are ten soldering iron kits available for community access.

  • Maximum of one (1) soldering iron up to six (6) hours per day
  • There is no limit to the number of bookings per week

There is one (1) Multicam CNC Router available for community access.

  • Maximum of two (2) hours access per day
  • Maximum of one (1) booking per week

Daily Flexibility

We restrict advance bookings to make sure everyone has the opportunity to access the facilities.

If resources are not in high demand, the Fabrication Lab team may extend a booking or make the resources available to other people, depending on the circumstances.

If you have a large project and require extended access to any of the resources, speak with a friendly Fabrication Lab team member.
