Educate that it is not used for just one thing that there are many different options available and asked what they may be interested in doing on a computer
Katrina T, 2022/10/13 09:25
Perhaps explaining the fun side of learning first e.g. games to play, which are fun and keep the brain stimulated. Then showing more important apps and info, slowing encouraging the person that there is a need to learn technology.
Andrea, 2022/10/13 09:11
Explain the benefits and convenience of technology, with information being easily accessible, also makes it easy to stay in contact with family and friends
Ash, 2022/07/29 16:41
Explain there are benefits that will suit their needs. such as apps for fun, or to assist in quick access to information, or services.
Janette, 2022/03/26 09:44
Inform the learner of ways that they may need to access technology, such as covid check-ins, my gov, etax etc.
R Frank, 2021/07/01 12:18
That's ok. Up to you if you want to complete the training. Show fun aspects of technology, real-time news and weather, looking up recipes etc.
Neill Hahn, 2021/04/09 19:11
We need to respect this view so we don't tell people what they should be doing.... and at the same time inform them of the advantages of being able to stay connected in the current world to the things that they may need, such as government services and to share in family events (see photos, etc), and perhaps catch up with old friends that they may not realize are already on-line (social media groups, etc). Raise awareness that digital technology even drives their TV, car, and some household items, so having some knowledge of how it works will enable them to keep using the devices that they will want to use and sometimes need to use, to easily submit forms, buy things that are only available on-line etc.
Stephanie, 2021/04/01 12:02
Inform patron of ways that they may need to access technology, such as covid check-ins, my gov, etax etc. Explain that while they may not choose to access technology regularly, having the skills can be very helpful in our digital age
Georgia, 2021/04/01 10:46
Have a conversation about the pro's of technology and how society is becoming a technology based society. Let them know that they may not need it necessarily to live comfortably but that there are many bonuses and opportunities that may not be open to them without access to technology.
Jessica, 2021/03/31 12:46
Gently explain to the patron that unfortunately the way today's society is headed technology is becoming more prominent and most official entities only have options that are online. As a bonus to learning let them know that they may not need it but it can definitely help keep them in touch with friends/family all over the world.
Richelle Ryan, 2021/03/31 11:20
Again find a motivator get to know the client. Sometimes people go to do their banking face to face because they want the contact. Find their interests and show them the possibilities to open their world.
Linda, 2021/03/05 11:39
Most services are now using digital logins and explain the advantages of being able to use them. They are easy to learn once you know how
Robina, 2021/03/04 12:49
Explain the advantages, and assist them with looking into a few of the sites - mygov, social media etc.
Mark, 2021/02/28 20:51
Discover a service they use regularly and demonstrate the ease and efficiency with which it can be accessed online.
GERARDINE MARY LAAN, 2021/02/24 15:01
Digital world is incredible and its waiting for you to reach out. Apps, Banking, social networks to name just a few. What ever your interest the digital world is waiting for you to discover what it has to offer.
k, 2021/02/18 13:51
Advise them the many advantages of digital world
Debbie, 2021/02/13 10:03
Explain all the advantages that the digital world can give them. Demonstrate some examples such as search engines and electronic platforms that are free at the library.
Pam, 2020/12/24 11:01
Many services are online now. Once you have tried it a couple of times it will get easier, encourage to have family or friend beside you till you feel more confident.
Maree Taylor, 2020/11/16 13:00
I am sure most people have experienced essential services now being online discuss this with them.
Tracie, 2020/11/04 14:31
Engage in general conversation, ask how they keep in touch with family/friends, what knowledge they have of computers then promote some resources that might suit their needs.
Jodie, 2020/10/28 16:18
Explain that having a basic knowledge on how to use technology could defiantly benefit their lives as a lot of systems now require you to use a computer.
fiona thackray, 2020/10/27 18:24
Follow their interests first and then show how a computer could support their hobbies. Show how a computer can help them with everyday tasks, paying bills, making online appointments, communicatinfg with family etc.
Desiree, 2020/10/27 15:20
I usually ask what they are interested in or if they have a question about something, then I do a quick search. This usually is all that is needed to see the value.
Nadine Keenan, 2020/10/24 11:35
Have discussions around the everyday need we have for technology - the ease once familiar with using applications and how it can save travel out of town and the cost associated with this.
Pearl, 2020/10/15 14:41
Many services are moving online and they may be required to use them in the future.
Kirsty, 2020/10/12 16:13
Many services are now online, suggest benefits and ease of using
Pam, 2020/10/12 14:48
OK, maybe that's true for them. And if that is going to be the case until the day they die, then fine. They need to see a need for learning.
But, whether we like it or not, many services are moving online, like MyGov & Centrelink. Whether you use internet banking or not, your bank is using the internet to process all your transactions.
Also, if they have a business, they need to know that there is already information about them on the internet. If they ignore that, they are just giving up control of that information to someone else.
Hannah, 2020/10/06 13:01
Educate them on the growing use of technology and that everything is changing to online. You could also let them know about the benefits associated with online use.
Colleen Hobdell, 2020/10/02 09:51
Talk about benefits and try to find an example that resonates with them
Carolyn Beattie, 2020/10/01 10:56
Explain how many services are moving towards digital delivery, and how digital literacy is going to become an essential skill for everyone
Anna, 2020/09/30 10:09
With the way things are progressing a lot of things are becoming online only. Point out the benefits to the person - specifically things that would appeal to them.
Tia, 2020/09/29 14:16
Everything is online now, so there is a need. I would suggest different ways they can connect with family and friends online, ask what their interests are and discuss different ways they can use platforms to enjoy these.
Tegan, 2020/09/28 12:45
Let them know some of the benefits of learning online services and explain that a lot of things are online recommended and can save a lot of time. Advise assistance is there as well.
Gemma, 2020/09/23 16:26
Personally I would let them know what the classes have to offer and that they are welcome to attend a class and see what they think. More than likely once they get started they will see that the classes are worthwile.
Kerry, 2020/09/23 16:25
I normally tell them its like anything new we learn its seems daunting at first but with time, patience and experience you too will become an expert. Once again I've shared my Dad experiences of how he wouldn't do any online banking but now he loves it!
Susan , 2020/09/23 12:18
More and more we are heading to the online forums, so having a basic knowledge and building your confidence you will be a tech savvy senior in no time.
Theresa, 2020/09/23 11:17
(Sorry same as my last answer). I tend to talk about the things they're into and discuss access to the amazing sites and applications they could use. I also mention some things that have moved online; passports, banking, MyGov, shopping, golf (since COVID). Having that basic knowledge and confidence to take advantage of these sites really makes life easier.
Alexis, 2020/09/21 15:19
Ask how they keep in contact with their family now and explain how they can share photos and chat online. Ask what hobbies they have that might be enhanced by online content. For example, if they like cooking, how easy it is to find recipes for specific ingredients. Explain that while they can see no need now, there might be a need in the future. (I agree with Chloe's comments.)
Chloe Patch, 2020/09/15 15:50
Unfortunately more and more things are going online. Everyone used to write letters now most people just email each other. There might not be a need right now, but in a few months or a years time there might be. Better to start now when there might not be a present need so that you can take your time and learn at your own pace. There's no time like the present.
Petrina, 2020/09/15 14:03
Give some examples of how technology is now found in so many areas of our lives from banking, government services, grocery shopping, online medical consults etc. Explain some ways in which it can streamline and make their lives easier such as ordering and tracing medicines and prescriptions online.
Jacki Hastings, 2020/09/14 15:57
Explain how technology is becoming more prominent in today's society and let them know that they may not need it but it can definitely help keep them in touch with friends/family all over the world.
Eleanor, 2020/09/10 15:59
Explain that technology is slowing becoming a part of every day life. There are some payments that you can only apply for online with Centrelink. FaceTime and skype are becoming the best way to keep in touch with family. More and more meetings are being help virtually through zoom, skype and Microsoft Teams.
Jennifer , 2020/09/10 11:08
Essential services like Mygov and banking. Staying in contact with family & friends
sue, 2020/08/31 11:15
With a bit of training and confidence the customer may think they have the need for digital technology, eg Mydigital health record, MyGov.
Natasha, 2020/08/28 17:30
Technology has been a part of life in some shape or form. Today, it is primarily the convenience. Access to information and people is literally at our fingertips, and we don't need to be consumed by it but it is there if and when we need it.
Christi, 2020/08/26 11:05
Explain that technology is part of everyday life and without even knowing it they have learned and adapted so far. Technology isn't just limited to computers/tablets/smartphones, it's in ATMs and EFTPOS terminals, paid parking areas, GPS and photography for example. Explain that technology is ever changing as well, consider mygov and how the ATO works now. How much easier it makes contacting loved ones. Show them that there are wonders in technology that they may not have considered
Sharynn, 2020/08/19 13:13
Essential services such as mygov. what are their interests and what is important to them such as family contact.
Tammy, 2020/08/18 16:41
